Arrived in the dark and soon made our way to the underground. Bought two 10 ride tickets. Impressed ourselves working it out when we speak no Spanish. Made our way to Jaume 1 station. When we came out we used Google maps to quickly find our way to the jewellery shop in Argentaria. However it was closed and no sign of our AirBnB host. As we had no phone credit or wifi we had a bit of a problem. So I asked a guy in a souvenir shop if he could make a call for us, which he did. After an animated conversation he told us someone would be arriving in about 20 minutes to let us in. In due course this happened. Made our way up in a very small two person lift to the apartment. It was very, very compact but had all we needed – a bed, toilet, shower, TV, wifi and space to store our clothes but that was it. Not much room to move. Made our way downstairs and walked past a pop up market to the other end of Argentaria.
Lots of restaurants.
Not our usual practice but when a spruiiker invited us into his restaurant, Xador, we agreed.
After all it was about 22:00 and we were famished. Much as we would have liked to sit outside, all the tables were taken so went inside. Very friendly, helpful wait staff quickly gave us menus. Started with a welcome beer
and ordered five of six tapas plates to share which we enjoyed greatly. A great introduction to the food in Barcelona. After dinner had a bit more of a look around. There was a huge church at the end of the street.
